Women's Tennis ready for Wednesday home tilt with Nicholls
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team is back in action Wednesday when it hosts Nicholls at 2 p.m. CT.
The Golden Eagles enter play with a 7-2 slate, its best start since 2016, but have not played since a Feb. 18 win at Kennesaw State, 6-1. Rikeetha Pereira, Tjasa Jerse and Elena Roca each have seven wins on the season to just three losses combined. Southern Miss also had a six-match homestand from Feb. 2-15, winning five of them.
Nicholls' last three matches have seen it defeat Xavier (La.) but fall to LSU and Abilene Christian, the latter being its first conference battle. The Colonels are 19-9 in singles and 11-4 in doubles. Mariia Kozachok's 5-1 record on No. 3 singles will make for a big test with Jerse's 7-1 mark.
The Colonels and Golden Eagles have played only twice since 2013, including a 4-0 win for the Black and Gold in 2016.
