Familiar Opponent Returns For First Home Match For Women's Tennis
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Women’s tennis host Jackson State on Saturday at 2 p.m. for its first home match of the season at the Southern Miss tennis courts.
Golden Eagle Highlights:
Southern Miss went 1-1 last weekend on the road in Fort Worth, Texas. After a tough loss against a slated roster of nationally ranked TCU players, Southern Miss recovered and earned a 4-2 win against Arkansas State. It’s been 13 years since the Golden Eagles defeated the Red Wolves.
The young squad experienced its first match with the black and gold but the returners, Rikeetha Pereira, Tjasa Jerse and Elena Roca, secured the win with singles wins on courts 2, 3, and 5.
Scouting Jackson State
The Lady Tigers travel to Hattiesburg with an 0-3 record after two losses to Alabama and a 6-1 loss to ULM. Senior, Tyler Smith leads the team with two singles wins. Smith competes on court 1 for both singles and doubles action.
Southern Miss blanked Jackson State 7-0 twice last season, both at home and on the road. Newcomers Arina Amaning, Anastasia Cobanovic and Tanit Lopez Lopez are still searching for their first singles for the Golden Eagles.
