Women's Tennis Open Up 2018 Season In Lone Star State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team opens up its 2018 season Friday at TCU for two road matches.

The Golden Eagles will have a doubleheader starting at 9 a.m. on Friday against host school TCU followed by a 4 p.m. match against Arkansas State to close out opening weekend.

Scouting TCU:

Heading into Friday's early morning match, TCU is ranked at No. 25 with two players ranked in the top 100's in singles play. No. 59 Aleksandra Zenovka won nine single matches in the fall and No. 71 Aleksa Cveticanin earned two wins against ranked opponents. Friday's match will be the first ever match between the two.

About Arkansas State:

The Red Wolves also open up its season against the Horned Frogs. The Golden Eagles match against the Red Wolves will be the 10th ever match between the two sides with Arkansas State holding a 2-7 advantage. The last time Southern Miss defeated Arkansas State was in 2005 with a 4-3 win.

Golden Eagle Highlights:

The Golden Eagles return four athletes from the 2016-17 season, combining for 44 singles wins. Tjasa Jerse and Elena Roca led the team with wins last season. Jerse finished her sophomore season with an 18-2 record and Roca finished 15-5.

Head Coach, Dominic Modise, picked up four new players for his sixth season at the helm for the Golden Eagles. Late signee, Arina Amaning, looks to make her debut for the Golden Eagles in Fort Worth.
