Women's Tennis Conclude Season After a 4-2 Loss
DENTON, Texas – The Southern Miss women’s tennis season came to a close Thursday afternoon after a 4-2 loss to UTSA in the opening round at the Conference USA Championships.
The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles point for the first time in 11 matches and trailed 2-0 after Carolin Drescher lost her match on court 1, 6-3, 6-4.
Alex Kitchen would finish her career at Southern Miss with 79 singles wins, the most in Southern Miss history. Kitchen finished the season with 12 singles wins after a 7-6(7-3), 6-2 win.
Elena Roca tied the match at 2 with her seventh win in a row on court 6. Despite dropping the first set, Roca came back to tie the match with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win.
UTSA would finish the match winning the last two singles match on courts 2 and 4 to face Rice in the quarterfinals.
The Golden Eagles finished the season 14-8 and held a six-match win streak heading into Thursday’s match.
