LAFAYETTE, La. - Freshman Mahitha Dadireddy's 6-4, 6-4 win over Nicole Breaux clinched the match as the Southern Miss women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 4-3 wins Sunday at the Cajun Courts.
The Golden Eagles won two of the three doubles to take the first point of the match. Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen struck first as the duo defeated Nelo Phiri and Nicole Breaux 8-5 on court one. The Ragin' Cajuns evened the doubles at No. 3 where Julie Cremers and Slexandra Way downed Karina Gurgenyan and Kathrin Waidner 8-3. Dadireddy and Lisa Noderer clinched the point at the two-spot against Melissa Burckhartt and Juliette Clement with an 8-4 win.
Louisiana opened the singles play with a win at No. 6 when Waidner lost to Way 6-2, 6-1 to even the match at 1-1. The Ragin' Cajuns took a 2-1 advantage after Clement defeated Kitchen 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5.
Southern Miss took a 3-2 lead when Drescher captured a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Phiri and Gurgenyan downed Cremers 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4. Shortly afterwards, Dadireddy clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Breaux. Rounding out the final scoring, Burckhartt defeated Noderer with a three-set match 6-4, 4-6, 7-5
Southern Miss will travel to Norfolk, Va., for the Conference USA Championship as Old Dominion hosts the event April 16-20.
