Women's Tennis Team Claims a Pair of Wins to Close Out Home Schedule

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team claimed a pair of wins to close out the home portion of their schedule Saturday at the USM Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles opened Saturday with a 6-0 victory over William Carey before finishing the day with 4-0 over Southern University.
Against William Carey, the Golden Eagles swept the singles competition. Carolin Drescher began with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 over Volcey Boilevin followed by a Karina Gurgenyan with a 6-0, 6-0 over Lucie Lovinfosse on court four. Alex Kitchen posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 against Layla Accorsi. Kathrin Waidner downed McKinsey Boss at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Lisa Noderer topped Ann Bauer on court three with a 6-0, 6-0 win and Mahitha Dadireddy wrapped the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Malin Collin in the two-spot.
In the final match of the day, Southern Miss collected the point in doubles with a sweep. Gurgenyan and Waidner won by default at No. 3 before Noderer and Dadireddy claimed an 8-1 win over Morgan Taylor and Camara Davis at No. 2. Drescher and Kitchen finished the sweep with an 8-4 win over Laura Syori and Kendall Bunch.
In singles, the Golden Eagles added a point with the default at No. 6. Noderer posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 against Bunch and Gurgenyan clinched the final point with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the four-spot against Taylor.
The remaining matches were halted.
Southern Miss concludes its regular season at Louisiana Sunday at 2 p.m.
