LAFAYETTE, La. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Louisiana at Cajun Courts on Saturday.
The Ragin' Cajuns (4-11) took the early 1-0 lead as Sandra Ahlqvist and Sophie van den Aarssen defeated Mackenzie Oskin and Moorea Williams, 8-0, on court three. Kate Lanier and Frances Askew battled on court one to get back within 7-6, but Milou Israel and Erin Wilbert held serve for the 8-6 win in clinching the doubles point. Elja van Berlo and Alex Bradley downed Tara Vasovic and Hannah Appleyard on court 2 for an 8-4 win.
The Golden Eagles (1-14) started the singles with Williams winning on court 5 as she posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ahlqvist to even the match at 1-1. Southern Miss took a brief lead, 2-1, in the match when van Berlo posted a 6-3, 6-2 win on court 2 over Wilbert.
Louisiana tied the match again at 2-2 when Appleyard defeated Bradley, 6-0, 6-2. Alexus Coats battled Isreal before finally falling, 6-3, 6-2. The Ragin' Cajuns clinched the match on court three when van den Aarssen defeated Lanier, 7-5, 7-5.
Oskin outlasted Vasovic on court 4 with a 7-5, 7-5 victory to finish the match.
Southern Miss travels to Southern University for a 12 p.m. match.
