Women's Tennis Drops Match to No. 2 Barry, 8-1

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team lost its final match of the week No. 2-ranked Barry University, which compete in NCAA Division II, on Friday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
Barry swept the Golden Eagles in doubles as No. 15 Vojka Lukic and Linda Fritschken defeated Kate Lanier and Frances Askew, 8-2, at the No. 1 spot. Barry's Cristina Valladares and Mona Mansour downed Elja van Berlo and Alex Bradley, 8-6, at No. 2, and Julie Stas and Sarah Krohnen completed the sweep with an 8-6 win over Moorea Williams and Mackenzie Oskin at the No. 3.
In singles, No. 33 Lukic came back from a set down to defeat Alexus Coats, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 on court 1. Lanier lost her match to No. 49 Caroline Wendling, 6-3, 6-3 in the three spot. At No. 4, Oskin lost to Krohnen, 6-1, 6-2 while Williams lost to Stas, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5. Bradley lost to Akemi Maehama, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
Elja van Berlo won the only point for the Golden Eagles at No. 2 singles as she defeated No. 48 ranked Valladares, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 10-7.
Southern Miss returns to action on March 24 when Golden Eagles travel to Louisiana-Lafayette.
