Women's Tennis Team Claims 5-2 Victory Over Appalachian State
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team took four singles victories in claiming a 5-2 win over Appalachian State Friday in Charleston, S.C.
The Golden Eagles opened the match by winning the doubles point as Alex Kitchen and Carolin Drescher defeated Mackenzie LaSure and Gabrielle Wreder at No. 1 by a score of 8-2. Kathrin Waidner and Karina Gurgenyan lost at No. 3 to Jessica Thaggard and McKayla Zupan 8-2. At No. 2, Mahitha Dadireddy and Lisa Noderer clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Clare Cox and Megan Mullen.
Southern Miss posted wins at No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 to round out the scoring. Drescher defeated Cox 6-3, 6-1 on court 1 with Dadireddy posting a three-set win at No. 2 with a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 win over LaSure. Noderer topped Brianna Armellino in a three-set match with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 victory. Kitchen downed Olivia Isbey 7-6, 6-2 at No. 6.
At No. 4, Waidner lost to Wreder, 6-2, 6-2 while Gurgenyan dropped her match at No. 5 against Thaggard, 6-4, 6-1.
Southern Miss will host Arkansas State on Mar. 21.
