Women's Tennis Falls to UTEP 6-1
EL PASO, Texas - The Southern Miss women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to UTEP in Conference USA action Sunday at the El Paso Tennis Club.
UTEP took the doubles' point winning two of three doubles. At No. 1, Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen lost a hard fought match 8-6 to Rebeca Calvillo and Davina Meza. Mahitha Dadireddy and Lisa Noderer knocked off Marie LeBlond and Daphane Visscher 8-5 on court two. Karina Gurgenyan and Kathrin Waidner fell 8-2 to Matilda Rose Tench and Gabi Vazquez on court three.
In singles, Alex Kitchen carded the only point for the Golden Eagles, defeating Tench in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
At No. 1, Dadireddy lost to Calvillo, 6-1, 6-4 while Drescher dropped a match to Meza on court two, 6-3, 6-4. Noderer fell to LeBlond 6-4, 6-3 on court three before Waidner lost to Vazquez 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. It took three sets for Visscher to defeat Gurgenyan at No. 5, 2-6, 6-0, 6-0.
Southern Miss returns to action on Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m. at the USM Tennis Courts.
