Women's Tennis Drops Match to Northwestern State, 7-0

Moorea Williams and Mackenzie Oskin teamed together to post win at No. 3 doubles

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team dropped a match to visiting Northwestern State, 7-0, on Sunday at the USM Tennis Courts.

Northwestern State took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles. Olga Bazhanova and Polina Konop topped Kate Lanier and Alexus Coats on court one, 8-1. Tatiana Larina and Andrea Nedorostova downed Elja van Berlo and Frances Askew, 8-5, to clinch the point. Moorea Williams and Mackenzie Oskin captured the No. 3 doubles with an 8-4 win over Dana Sardak and Amy Williams.

The Lady Demons sweep the singles' competition. NSU's Nedorostova put NSU up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 over Oskin. Konop followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court four over Williams. Larina then clinched the match for NSU at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lanier.

Rounding out the singles were van Berlo dropping her match to Bazhanova, 6-4, 6-2 on court one. Alex Bradley battled Williams at No. 5, but lost 6-4, 6-3. Askew lost to Olga Leyshyna at No. 6, 6-0, 6-1.

Southern Miss is back on the courts on Feb. 24 when the Golden Eagles travel to No. 24 Ole Miss. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
