Women's Tennis Drops Match to South Alabama 5-2

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team fell 5-2 to South Alabama Friday afternoon at the USM Tennis Courts.

The Golden Eagles dropped a hard-fought doubles point and two singles wins were not enough as Southern Miss moves to 2-5 while South Alabama improved to 5-0.

South Alabama took the doubles point, but the Golden Eagle duo of Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen battled at No. 1 in taking win in a tie-breaker over Emily Newton and Mich Meszarosova 8-7 (4).

Mahitha Dadireddy and Karina Gurgenyan lost to Laura Volkova and Monica Mitta 8-3 at No. 2. Lisa Noderer and Kathrin Waidner dropped their match at No. 3 to Paula Sanchez and Laura Matuskova 8-5.

Southern Miss added a pair of wins in singles when Carolin Drescher defeated Emily Newton on court two in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Kitchen took the first set over Paula Sanchez 7-5, but dropped her second set 6-4, before rallying in a tie-breaker in the third 10-5.

Southern Miss hits the courts again on Sunday when the Golden Eagles host Southeastern Louisiana at 11 a.m.
