Women's Tennis Edged 4-3 by Northwestern State
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Northwestern State Demons on Saturday afternoon at the USM Tennis Courts.
Northwestern State earned the doubles point in taking two of three matches. Lisa Noderer and Kathrin Waidner lost 6-1 to Aliona Ladutska and Amy Williams on court 3. Karina Gurgenyan and Mahitha Dadireddy fell 6-2 to Natalya Krutova and Kateryna Piatakova at No. 2. The doubles on court 1 were not completed.
In singles, Waidner lost 6-3, 7-5 to Ladutska at No. 5 while Noderer dropped her match 6-4, 6-4 6 to Piatakova at No. 3 in give the Demons a 3-0 lead. Northwestern State clinched the match with a win at No. 4 with Krutova defeating Gurgenyan 6-1, 6-3.
The Golden Eagles took the remaining matches with Carolin Drescher defeating Polina Konop 3-6, 6-4, 12-10 at No. 2. Dadireddy downed Tatiana Larina on court 1, 6-4, 6-4. Alex Kitchen knocked off Daniela Simonova at No. 6, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
Southern Miss continues its home stand with a match against Samford on Feb. 12 at 2 p.m.
