LORMAN, Miss -- The Southern Miss Women's Tennis Team took down Alcorn State in dominating fashion and swept the Braves to take home a 7-0 victory.
The Lady Eagles are now 1-2 on the season.
Behind the impressive doubles performances of sisters Elja and Vroni van Berlo, Southern Miss dropped just two games to win all three doubles matches by a combined 24-2 score. Longtime doubles partners Stephanie Dellocono and Lauren Gutterman put up a perfect 8-0 score in the match.
The story was much of the same in singles competition. Zoe Lee moved her individual record to 5-1 as she bested her opponent with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score.
Francis Askew kept things interesting, however, as she surrendered the second set of his match and was forced into a super tiebreaker. Askew went on to keep the Eagles perfect as she won 6-2,2-6,10-7.
The team returns home to open up 2010 on their home court at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. They will face Northwestern State, Saturday, February 13th with the matches beginning at noon.
