HOUSTON, Texas - The Southern Miss women's tennis team bounced back to take a 4-3 decision over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts on the campus of the University of Houston.
Southern Miss evened its record to 2-2 on the season.
The Golden Eagles earned the doubles point winning two of the three doubles matches. Carolina Drescher and Alex Kitchen topped Stafania Nicolae and Kerry Galhos 6-1 while Lisa Noderer and Kathrin Waidner downed Maider Martin and Celia Rodgriguez 6-3. Mahitha Dadireddy and Karina Gurgenyan were leading Sandra Burges and Judit Vives 4-3 before the match was called.
In singles, the teams each won three matches as the Golden Eagles posted wins at No. 1, 2 and 3. Mahitha Dadireddy defeated Stafania Nicolae, 6-4, 6-4 while Carolin Drescher downed Maider Martin, 6-4, 6-2. Lisa Noderer clinched the match for the Golden Eagles with a 7-6 (5), 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over Sandra Burges on court 3.
Karina Gurgenyan lost to Celia Rodriguez 6-0, 7-5 on court 4, Kathrin Waidner dropped her match to Kerry Galhos 6-1, 6-4 on court 5 and Alex Kitchen lost to Judit Vives in a tough battle 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.
Southern Miss returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8, when the Golden Eagles host Northwestern State at 11 a.m.
