Women's Tennis Blanks Jackson State 7-0

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team snapped a 24-match losing streak, dating back to April 15, 2012, with a 7-0 victory over Jackson State at the USM Tennis Courts.

Southern Miss (1-1) earned the doubles point after Mahitha Dadireddy and Karina Gurgenyan defeated Kesica Jayapalan and Angie Cordorelli (JSU) on court 2 with a 6-3 win. The duo of Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen clinched the doubles point on court 1 with a 6-4 win over Harshini Reddy and Akshatha Anath (JSU).

The Golden Eagles swept the singles beginning with Alex Kitchen downing Angie Cordorelli, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 followed by Carolin Drescher with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Akshatha Anath at on court 2. Kathrin Weidner posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kesica Jayapalan at No. 5 while Karina Gurgenyan defeated Julia Angerman at No. 4.

Wrapping up the singles play, Lisa Noderer defeated Harshini Reddy, 7-6 (2), 6-0 at No. 3 and Mahitha Dadireddy downed Anastasia Zviahintesva on court 1, 6-3, 6-4.

Southern Miss returns to action on Friday, Jan. 31 at Houston with a 1 p.m. match followed by a 1 p.m. match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Feb. 1.
