Shelby Lipson enters her second season as an assistant coach for the Lady Eagles. Prior to coming to Southern Miss, Lipson concluded an outstanding athletic career at Illinois State where she helped her teams win back-to-back conference championships.
Lipson brings a wealth of coaching and teaching experience as a coach at the Nike Tennis Camps in Austin, Texas, during the last three summers where she was the assistant director. She also was an instructor at the Evergreen Raquet Club in Bloomington, Ill., and the Bloomington Country Club.
During Lipson's playing career at Illinois, she was a four-year letterwinner and the team captain from 2001-03. While there, she won the Missouri Valley Conference individual tennis title at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
The El Paso, Texas, native was a four-year letterwinner at St. Stephens Episcopal School.
Lipson, who graduated magna cum laude, received her bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in public relations. She is the daughter of Myer and Beth Lipson.
