HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi softball team's Mackenzie Sher was named to the Academic All-Conference USA team as announced by the league office. For Sher, it is the second consecutive year she has earned the honor.
Sher joins Leslie LeJune as the only Southern Miss recipient to earn the accolade more than once. LeJune earned the distinction in 2011 and 2012. The Golden Eagles have earned seven Academic All-C-USA honors since the introduction of the award in 2007.
Earlier this year, Sher was received the Southern Miss Outstanding Female Individual Grade Point Average Award. She is a multi-year recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal (2013-14, 2012-13, 2011-12, 2010-11) and Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll (2013-14, 2012-13, 2011-12, 2010-11).
On the field, the Bellaire, Texas native was named Conference USA Player of the Week (March 31, 2014). She finished the season batting .284 with 42 hits in 148 at-bats with a career-high 11 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 27 RBI and 20 runs scored.
Sher led the team in slugging percentage, RBI, home runs, total bases, games played and games started. She concluded the season ranked in team's top 5 in runs scored (2nd), doubles (2nd), triples (2nd), chances (2nd), putouts (2nd), batting average (3rd), hits (3rd), hit by pitch (3rd), walks (4th), on-base percentage (5th) and assists (5th).
In addition, the senior led the team with eight multiple RBI games and was second on the team with 11 multi-hit games.
Sher finished her Southern Miss career ranked in the school career records in home runs (4th), sacrifice flies (4th), putouts (6th), fielding percentage (6th) and total chances (9th).
