Robles Earns First Ever Pitcher of the Week Honor
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss softball's Samantha Robles earned her first ever Conference USA Pitcher of the Week award as announced by the league office. It is the second weekly award for the Golden Eagles this season and the first C-USA weekly pitching accolade since 2010.
Robles joins Lauren Holifield -- won C-USA Player of the Week on March 14 -- as the only weekly honorees for the Golden Eagles thus far this season. The Texas City native is the first Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honoree for Southern Miss since Gabby Luciani (2010-12) earned the award on April 26, 2010.
Robles made a pair of appearances on the week, helping Southern Miss to its first Conference USA sweep since 2011. The redshirt sophomore went 2-0 on the week with a perfect 0.00 earned run average. She tossed a pair of complete games, including a complete game shutout. Robles threw 14.0 innings allowing two unearned runs with one walk and 13 strikeouts. She notched five 1-2-3 innings on the weekend and ended four different innings with a strikeout, while striking out at least one batter in eight of 14 innings of work.
Robles began the weekend with a complete game shutout against North Texas in the series opener. She surrendered no runs on four hits with no walks and a season-high seven strikeouts to earn the 4-0 win.
The Texas City native followed that performance with a complete game victory. Robles scattered five hits, allowing just two unearned runs in 7.0 innings in the series finale. She allowed one walk, while striking out another six batters for the win to complete the series sweep.
Robles helped her own cause at the plate, batting .500 on the week, going 3-for-6 with a double and two RBI with a slugging percentage of .667.
