Softball Launches FTTT Campaign; Travels to UAB for Weekend Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - In conjunction with the Southern Miss Athletic Department, the Southern Miss Softball team has announced its plan to "Fill" the complex "To The Top" in their own FTTT campaign next Tuesday, April 2, against Troy.

Southern Miss also travels to Conference USA rival UAB this weekend where they will take on the Blazers in a 6 p.m. game on Friday with a doubleheader set for Saturday at 1 p.m.

UAB Tops Southern Miss in Extra Innings on Senior Day
Southern Miss fell in extra innings for the second consecutive day to Conference USA foe UAB on Sunday, 4-2, at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.

For the FTTT campaign, the Golden Eagles have partnered with the Hattiesburg Zoo and Student Eagle Club to provide extra entertainment for the night's doubleheader with the Trojans.

Tickets for that game can be purchased for just $2 and free pizza will be provided, courtesy of the Student Eagle Club. Additionally, the Hattiesburg Zoo will be on-hand with a variety of animals for fans to meet and interact with.

The first game is set to begin at 4 p.m. with the second game immediately following its conclusion.

In their upcoming series with the Blazers, Southern Miss (11-21, 1-7) looks to improve on their split series last weekend with UTEP and do it at a park where they carry a 9-9 record overall.

However, the Blazers (19-7, 8-1) are off to a hot start in C-USA play - at just a half-game out of first place - and currently hold a seven-game winning streak, a streak leading batter's Danielle LaPointe (.253) and Morgan McKeever (.299) hope to snap on Friday.

In the circle, UAB's staff is second only to Tulsa is team ERA with 1.98 and feature two hurlers, Lannah Campbell and Lauren Webster, with all-conference potential. At the plate for the Blazers, Caitlin Attfield and Whitney Fletcher both rank among C-USA's best, holding top 10 spots in batting average and batting average.

For the Golden Eagles, three arms have gotten at least 14 or more appearances with senior Kimberly Wagner leading the way with a 6-4 mark and a 3.36 ERA and holding opponents to a .252 average.

Overall in the series, Southern Miss carries a 23-19 into Birmingham this weekend after winning 15 of the first 19 games in the series which dates back to 2000. UAB has won the series each of the last four seasons.
