Softball Starts Nine Game Homestand with Two Mid-Week Matchups
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team returns home for a nine game streak beginning with a single game versus Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles take on South Alabama at the Softball Complex on Wednesday in a solo contest at 6 p.m. as well.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Ole Miss Classic. Southern Miss claimed wins against Saint Louis, 15-8, Chattanooga, 6-3 and nationally ranked Ole Miss, 5-2.
Southern Miss enters the week, 9-10 on the season with the squad presenting a .286 batting average led by freshman Destini Brown. The McComb native is currently riding a four game multi-hit streak with eight to her name so far.
In the circle, Kim Crowson is sporting a 2.87 ERA with 31 2/3 innings pitched along with two complete games and 15 strikeouts. Senior Samantha Robles is leading the squad with 55 1/3 innings pitched behind 30 strikeouts and three complete games.
Following these two midweek games, the Golden Eagles open C-USA play when they host Western Kentucky in a three-game series beginning on Saturday at 1 p.m. All games are streamed on CUSA.tv ($) and can be heard on 1400AM The Score.

Scouting the Opponents
The Lady Lions comes into the week 10-8 on the year and 1-4 this past weekend at the Mizzou Tournament. Senior Mahalia Gibson leads SLU with a .350 batting average, five home runs, five doubles and 20 RBI on the season. They are hitting .267 as a squad along with being currently ranked fourth in Division I with 47 stolen bases; Kinsey Nichols has 10 stolen bases.
Southeastern enters Tuesday's with a 2.80 team earned run average led by Rachel Hayes (3.18 ERA, 1 save). Lacey Hill (2.66 ERA), Tanner Wright (1.36 ERA) and Alley McDonald (3.91 ERA) have also seen time in the circle for the Lady Lions.
The Jaguars enter the week 10-11 on the season after falling 2-3 this past weekend in the Tennessee Invitational. The team took wins over Charleston Southern and Toledo but fell to Tennessee twice. Brittani Reid leads the team with a .340 batting average with 18 hits, three doubles, a triple and two homers. MC Nichols follows with a .244 clip showing five runs on 10 hits.
South Alabama enters the Wednesday match up with a 2.97 team ERA led by Devin Brown (7-6, 2.48 ERA) and Alexis Reid (3-5, 3.07 ERA).
