On Friday, the team will play a single game each against Florida State, beginning at 11:15 a.m. CT, and Appalachian State at 3:30 p.m. CT then a single game on Saturday against Troy at 9 a.m. CT before tournament play begins.
Tournament play includes the No. 1 and 4 seeds playing Saturday at 1:30 p.m., followed by a 3:30 p.m. game between the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. The championship game is Sunday at 10:15 a.m., while the consolation game is Sunday at 8 a.m.
The Golden Eagles are coming off an even week, having gone 3-3 with victories over Ole Miss and Louisiana Tech. As the story has been, and will continue to be, this season for the team, youth has led the team the majority of the way, with a pair of underclassmen leading the team at the plate and in the infield.
Freshman Morgan McKeever's .350 batting average is a team-best while sophomore shortstop Caroline Walker's .453 on-base percentage is also tops among the squad. Last weekend, the duo combined to hit 17-for-38 (.447) at the top of the lineup, and both carry a six-game hitting streak into Tallahassee.
Historically, the Golden Eagles are a combined 8-16 against the three teams this weekend, holding a 3-10 mark against FSU, 1-0 against ASU, and 4-6 against Troy and defeated the Seminoles in their last meeting in the 2010 season opener. FSU was also ranked in that match up, as high as No. 19.
Looking at the weekend's foes, ASU is coming off an extended break, having not played a game since a 2-1 loss to Wichita State on Feb. 17. The Mountaineers are hitting at a .234 clip, led by Lindsay Loudermilk, and carry a 6.17 team ERA. The Trojans carry a two-game winning streak into the event and Hannah Renn's four homers and Chandler Griffin's .371 average are team-bests.
FSU is looking to snap a four-game losing skid after playing nationally-ranked opponents Oklahoma, Nebraska, Stanford, and Washington last weekend in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Fla. The hard-hitting Seminoles are batting .295 as a team this season and have knocked out 13 homers in 2013.
