Softball Concludes Homestand with Midweek Matchup Against Nicholls State
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team wraps up an 11 game homestand on Wednesday, February 28, in a single game matchup with Nicholls State. First pitch is set for 6 pm.

Southern Miss enters the week, 6-8, after taking the series over Jacksonville State, 2-1. The Golden Eagles captured the Friday game, 5-4 and the second game of the doubleheader, 9-6.
Freshman Destini Brown went 4-for-5 on Saturday putting up two hits in each game, giving her five multi-hit games this season. Chase Nelson also had a fantastic day going 3-for-3 in the second game with two runs and two RBIs. Eight different player registered hits in the doubleheader outing.
The Golden Eagles are hitting .275 as a group with 69 runs on 95 hits along with 17 sacrifice hits. The pitching staff is showing a 3.20 ERA with senior Samantha Robles leading the way who tied her career-high in strikeouts in the Friday game with nine.
Nicholls State leads the series 39-13 and dates back to 1984. The Golden Eagles are 8-17 against the Colonels at the Softball Complex.
The Colonels took the win over the Golden Eagles in the 2017 Black and Gold Invitational, 3-1. Chase Nelson had the lone-hit for Southern Miss while Jillian Johnson pitched 4 2/3 innings only allowing one run.
Scouting the Opponent
Nicholls State enters the midweek matchup with an 8-4 record.
Samantha Mrachich is leading the squad with a .353 clip behind eight runs on 12 hits and a .421 on-base percentage while Amanda Gianelloni holds a .351 batting average with 13 hits that include two doubles, two triples and a homer.
Megan Landry (4-2) posts a 1.37 ERA with one complete game under her belt. The junior has pitched 35 2/3 innings allowing seven earned runs on 24 hits along with 39 strikeouts.
Following this midweek matchup, the Golden Eagles head to Oxford, Miss. to take part in the Ole Miss Classic.
