Softball Continues Homestand with a Three-Game Series against Jacksonville State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss softball team continues their home stand with a three-game series against Jacksonville State. A single game matchup on Friday at 6pm and a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 pm.

Southern Miss enters the week 4-7 after a run-rule victory over Alabama State on Wednesday evening, 8-0.

Freshman Karley Nichols finished with two runs on two hits extending her hitting streak to three games after the Alabama State game. The Brandon native also has three multi-hit games in her freshman campaign.

The Golden Eagles are hitting .275 as a group with 52 runs on 73 hits along with 13 sacrifice hits. The pitching staff is showing a 3.14 ERA with senior Kim Crowson leading the way who notched a complete game and the win over the Lady Hornets.

Series Record
Southern Miss leads the series 9-1with the only loss coming in the Black and Gold Invitational last year, 2-0.

Last Meeting
The Golden Eagles swept the Jacksonville Gamecocks in a three-game series at University Field in Jacksonville, Alabama last year. Southern Miss took the doubleheader, 2-1 and 4-3 before a 6-4 win on Sunday sealed the win.

In the Sunday outing, Peyton Carter got her first start as a Golden Eagle and Jade Lewis notched her first collegiate win putting in 4 2/3 innings of work.

Scouting the Opponent
The Gamecocks enter the weekend series 5-6 on the year with wins over Lipscomb, Samford, Jacksonville and Army twice. Head Coach Jan McGinnis is in her 25th season at Jacksonville State and has won over 800 games including 70 percent of her games. Last season the Gamecocks went 41-12, 15-1 in OVC, and 11-4 on the road.

Taylor Beshears currently leads the team hitting a .421 with 7 runs on 16 hits and 8 RBI along with five doubles and two homeruns. Jacksonville State is hitting a .248 as a team with 37 runs on 75 hits.

In the circle, Faith Sims has made the most appearances with seven and notches a 3.05 ERA allowing 18 runs but has 34 strikeouts on the season.
