The Golden Eagles (6-9) are coming off a split doubleheader with in-state rival Ole Miss on Wednesday and will take another a pair of teams who are no strangers to the program.
In what is one of the oldest series in program history, dating back to the program's second year of existence in 1986, Southern Miss is 12-14 all-time against Louisiana Tech with an 8-4 mark overall in Hattiesburg. The Lady Techsters participated in last year's tournament and took away a 13-6 decision over Southern Miss.
The series with Northwestern State dates back almost as far - back to 1988 - with the Black and Gold carrying a 13-10 overall record into the weekend. Southern Miss has won the last 12 meetings between the schools who last squared off in a late-season doubleheader in 2010.
For the Golden Eagles, youth has been the story of the season and that remains unchanged heading into the weekend. Underclassmen Morgan McKeever (.326) and Caroline Walker (.300) continue to lead the team at the plate for a team that has had as many as seven underclassmen in the field at times this season.
Louisiana Tech (5-4) and new head coach Mark Montgomery come to Hattiesburg with the reigning Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week in Michelle Jones who went 2-1 last week including her first career no-hitter in a five-inning 10-0 win over Alcorn State.
The Lady Demons (8-2) will bring a hard-hitting lineup, led by Brittany Virgoe (.471) to the Hub City, along with a .321 team batting average. Complementing their bats, the NSU pitching staff is combining for a 1.92 team ERA.
Tickets for the tournament $20 for all-tournament chairback passes, $15 and $10 for adults and youth general admission, respectively. Day passes and single game tickets are $8 for chairbacks, $6 and $4 for adult and youth general admission, respectively.
