Late Rally Pushes Golden Eagles over Southeastern Louisiana
Improves to 27-26 on the season
HAMMOND, La. – A seventh inning six run rally pushed the Southern Miss softball squad over the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday evening. Southern Miss improves to 27-26 on the season, going 12-11 on the road.
Samantha Robles got the start and the win (9-7) after allowing only one unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts in the complete game.
Lauren Holifield led the offense going 2-for-4 in the game with both hits being doubles, those being her sixth and seventh on the season. Heather Hill also had a multiple hit game with two singles on night, her second multiple hit game this year. Tori Dew had her ninth multiple RBI game after hitting a single through the middle to plate Selena Estrada and Chase Nelson in the seventh inning.
The Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth when Mahalia Gibson reached on a throwing error then was moved up on a wild pitch and scored after a delayed stolen base attempt.
The two teams exchanged scoreless innings until the Golden Eagles put up six runs in the top of seventh. Arielle Pollock started it off with a bunt single and was moved up on Hill’s single up the middle. Jade Lewis with an RBI single tied the game up. Amber Pack and Beth Taylor both drew walks to plate the second run and the lead. The inning saw eight different batters with five hits and three walks.
Southern Miss will finish the regular season on the road at Ole Miss, Wednesday, at 6 pm. The game is set to be televised on SEC Network.
