Softball Sweeps Alcorn in Midweek Doubleheader
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Softball team collected its first two wins of the season when it swept the Lady Braves of Alcorn State, 5-3 and 18-0, on Tuesday night.
In the second game, Southern Miss drew 11 walks, marking the third most in single game history; the most since 2009. It also served as the largest margin of victory by a Golden Eagle squad since a 24-1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, three years ago to the day.
Chase Nelson made her first start on the season and had a multi-hit game in the nightcap. Samantha Papp and Destini Brown also had hits in both games.

The Lady Braves got on the board first as Amari Ramsey knocked a three-run homer over the left field wall putting Alcorn up 3-0 in the top of the second but Southern Miss responded with the final 23 runs of the game.
Southern Miss came back in the bottom of the fourth putting four runs on four hits with three Lady Brave errors to take the lead.
Robles allowed two earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and claimed the win, moving her to 1-2 on the season.

The Golden Eagles came out of the first game swinging. In the bottom of the first inning the Black and Gold put together four hits to score seven runs with the help of three Alcorn errors to take a large lead, 7-0.
In the bottom of the second innings the Golden Eagles scored 11 runs on six hits, five being singles and a double by Ciarra Cherry.
Kim Crowson got the starting nod in the second game and pitched two complete innings giving up just one hit. Jade Lewis came in relief and pitched two more innings with no hits and one strikeout before Jillian Johnson finished the game with one inning pitched.
The Golden Eagles return this weekend when they host the annual Black and Gold Invitational. Southern Miss takes on Alabama in the opening game, Friday, February 16 at 1 p.m.
