Jim Castañeda Scholarships Awarded to 15 Outstanding Student-Athletes
For the second consecutive year, Southern Miss' Mackenzie Sher has been named Academic All-C-USA.
It is the fourth-straight year a Southern Miss player was named to the team.
Volleyball registered six President's List members, while women's soccer was next with five and women's track had four.
Caroline Walker was named the C-USA Freshman of the Year by College Sports Madness.
The Golden Hurricane took both games of Saturday's doubleheader.
At Southern Miss: A preseason All-Conference USA first team selection ... Expected to start in center field ... Possesses great knowledge of the game ... Extremely accurate from the outfield ... Lots of power at the plate but has developed a short game in the fall
As a Junior in 2011: Stretched her consecutive start streak to 116 games as she started all 55 games of the season ... Was one of just three players to start all 55 and one of four to appear in all 55 ... Hit for a .263 average with 44 hits, 13 doubles and four home runs ... Had the third-best slugging percentage of the regular starts at .413 ... Led the team with nine stolen bases and was never thrown out ... Named to the NFCA Academic All-American squad and C-USA All-Academic team ... Also earned C-USA Second Team honors ... Recorded three or more hits in four games including a season-best 4-of-6 performance against UTEP (4/16) ... Had a season-high 4 RBI day against Mississippi State (4/6) as she went 3-of-4 at the plate with a pair of homers ... Recorded 59 putouts and six assists ... Drew a team-high 23 walks
As a Sophomore in 2010: One of only two players to start all 53 games last season ... Batted .288 with a team-leading 53 hits including 13 doubles and four homers ... Recorded 19 RBI ... Scored a team-high 39 runs ... Was 7-of-9 in stolen bases ... Drew 15 walks ... Finished with a .343 on base percentage and .424 slugging percentage ... Registered her first career home run against Mercer (2/13) ... Posted back-to-back three-hit games against Southern (2/16) and Alcorn State (2/20) .... Had a 2-for-3 day against Arkansas (3/7) with a home run ... As a Freshman in 2009: Played in 53 games with 45 starts in center field ... One of seven freshmen to start at least 22 games ... Batted .195 with 25 hits that included three doubles and 10 RBI ... Scored 22 runs ... Had 22 base on balls ... In her last 10 games, batted .250 with seven hits, including two doubles ... Tallied two hits in the three-game series against Tulsa (5/3/09) ... Collected a hit against UTEP-3 (4/19/09) ... Had a 2-for-4 day in game one against UCF (4/4/09) with a run batted in ... Solid play in center field with a good arm ... High School: A three-year letterwinner for Coach Tina Young at Memorial High School, where she batted .453 with 43 hits, including eight doubles, eight triples and a home run ... Her lone home run was a grand slam ... Named the 2006 Newcomer of the Year ... Helped her team to two undefeated district championships ... Earned MVP honors ... Named first-team All-Greater Houston ... Voted her team's captain
