Softball Snaps Streak in Split With UAB

Southern Miss snapped an 11-game losing streak to UAB with a win in the first game of a doubleheader.

Had surgery on her elbow in September and missed all of fall practice ... Began throwing again in late December and will be back at full strength when the season begins ... Throws five pitches (rise, change-up, screw ball, curve and drop) ... Curve and drop ball are her go-to pitches ... Will be expected to be one of the team's top pitchers ... Had an outstanding debut season ... Threw seven complete games in her first seven starts, including three shutouts, winning six times ... In her 24 starts, allowed under two earned runs 14 times ... Led the pitching staff in wins (14), ERA (2.92), innings pitched (182.0), complete games (19), appearances (38) and lowest batting average (.258) ... Throws with good velocity ... Is not a power pitcher, but gets outs with solid location ... Tossed a one-hit shutout against Mississippi Valley State (2/26) ... Posted a career-high six strikeouts against Houston (4/16) and DePaul (5/12) ... Also saw action at designated player last season.

Pitched 68 innings, and finished with a 9-1 record, including 108 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.31 ... Helped Sickles win the FHSAA 6A State Championship in as freshman ...
