Ben Elliott began at USM in 2010 as part of the Southern Miss Sports Medicine staff as a graduate assistant for the Golden Eagle Softball team. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Trainer in 2012 a capacity he still holds.
Elliott is one of five full-time staff athletic trainers at the University of Southern Mississippi. He is responsible for the athletic training needs of the Golden Eagle women’s softball team. During his time at Southern Miss, Elliott has advanced his knowledge in the field by obtaining several certifications including Functional Movement Systems (FMS) and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). Elliot serves as a preceptor for the USM Athletic Training Program.
Elliott earned his Masters Degree in Sports Management from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2012, prior to being promoted to an Assistant Athletic Trainer in the USM Sports Medicine Department. Before entering Southern Miss in 2010, Elliott completed a spring internship with Virginia Tech. While with the Hokies, he worked with the football and women’s lacrosse programs.
The Oxford, Ala., native obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from the Troy University. During his three-year tenure at Troy, Elliott worked specifically with men’s basketball, football, baseball, and track and field programs. Prior to attending Troy, Elliot attended Gadsden State Community College for two years.
Elliott is a Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer. He holds certifications in FMS and SFMA. Elliott is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Mississippi Athletic Trainers Association, as well as holding a current Professional Rescuer Certification from the American Heart Association.
Elliott is the son of Tony and Tanja Elliott and has one sister, Jourdain.
