HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's soccer team was named to the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award list for the fifth consecutive year. Teams must have a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher to qualify for this honor.
The squad boasted a team grade-point average of 3.35 and also had one player, senior Caitlin Leumas (Mandeville, La.), earn Conference USA All-Academic and CoSIDA Academic All-District VI first team honors.
The Golden Eagles were one of 10 C-USA schools to receive the honor. Memphis, Colorado College, Marshall, UTEP, UCF, SMU, Rice, Tulsa and East Carolina were also named to the award list. Of those 10, only three had a higher team GPA than the Golden Eagles.
The NSCAA honors men's and women's teams across the United States. This year, 726 programs earned the academic award (222 men's and 504 women's teams), including 152 institutions who were represented on both men's and women's lists.
