It was announced Tuesday that Southern Miss junior defender Casey Adkins had been named to the 2013 Conference USA Women's Soccer All-Academic First Team.

Adkins, a junior from Mandeville, La., and graduate of Fontainebleau High School, is a Pre-Nursing major at Southern Miss and has maintained a near-perfect, 3.95 GPA.

In 2013, Adkins started all 20 games for the Golden Eagles and logged 1,783 minutes. It was first year of playing defender at any level and Adkins, a former forward, proved adept at warding off opposing attacks.

Adkins is a former two-time recipient of the Conference USA Academic Medal and has appeared on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List and President's List multiple times in her academic career.
