HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Senior defender Caitlin Leumas added her second postseason award when she repeated as a Capital One Academic All-District 6 First Team member, presented by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday.
Leumas, a four-year letterwinner for the Golden Eagles on the back line, was named to the All-Academic First Team for the third year in a row earlier this week along with fellow senior Jordan Wagner.
The Mandeville, La., native has maintained a flawless 4.0 GPA at Southern Miss as a Kinesiotherapy major and completed her Golden Eagle career as one of the most durable in history, playing 6,347 of a possible 6,564 minutes in her career, missing just 212 minutes over the first three games of her freshman campaign and coming off to a standing ovation in the final five minutes of the 2012 season finale.
"When you go out and recruit players, you hope that they all end up with the accolades and achievements Caitlin Leumas has," said coach Scott Ebke. "It's tough to say where she worked harder - in the classroom or on the field. This is another great award for her and for our program as a whole."
It is also the fourth consecutive Academic All-District award for the Golden Eagles as former striker Jana Mason earned consecutive second team honors following the 2010 and 2009 seasons while Amy Davis picked up second team honors in 2009. Leumas added her first team honor last season.
