RUSTON, La. - The Golden Eagles soccer team will play its only match of the year in Pelican State with a 1 p.m. visit to Louisiana Tech on Sunday for the last leg of a weekend Conference USA road trip.
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between these squads and the series is even at 1-1-1. Last year, Louisiana Tech registered a 3-1 win. The Golden Eagles earned their win over the Lady Techsters with a 4-0 showing in 2006 and the teams played to a scoreless tie in 2011.
Southern Miss will enter the match 6-6-4 overall and 0-4-2 in C-USA play. The Golden Eagles are coming off back-to-back losses to Rice and UTSA.
Lousiana Tech enters the match with an overall record of 8-7-1 with a 3-3 mark in Conference USA. The Lady Techsters are riding high after wins of 1-0 over Middle Tennessee State and 3-0 over UTEP in their most recent matches.
Southern Miss has scored 38 goals while allowing 22. Louisiana Tech has struck pay dirt 28 times while allowing 17 goals on the year.
Individually, the Golden Eagles are led on offense by seniors Danica Roberts and Chelsea Cruthirds and junior Brooke Hendrix.
Roberts has scored 12 goals with three assists on the year, Cruthirds six goals and Hendrix four goals with six assists.
Louisiana Tech's top offensive performers have been Kathryn Sloan, with six goals and an assist, and Kailee Hervey, with four goals and one assist.
Defensively, both teams have been solid in goal.
Southern Miss keeper Brittany Taylor has made a conference-best 88 saves with an .851 save percentage. Louisiana Tech's Caitlyn Updike has made 57 saves.
