Soccer Eagles Tie Tulsa in Conference Opener
In their Conference USA opener, the Southern Miss women's soccer team traveled to Tulsa on Friday and came away with a 0-0 tie after two overtime periods at Hurricane Stadium.

"Our team loves to compete no matter the occasion," said coach Scott Ebke. "But, they always seem to have a bit of extra motivation for matches that hold a special significance, such as our Pink Out game. SMU and Tulsa are tough opponents, and we have trained extremely hard this week to prepare for the challenge."

Southern Miss (3-6-1, 0-3 C-USA) fell to conference foe Rice, 1-0, last week and had their Sunday game against Houston rained out. They will look to rebound against two of C-USA's top teams.

The Mustangs (5-5-2, 1-1-2 C-USA) are led by Shelby Redman who has six goals and five assists on the year. Her 17 total points have her tied for third among all C-USA players. Teammate Courtney Smith has tallied eight assists of her own this season to lead the conference in that category.

Sunday's opponent, Tulsa (6-4-2, 1-2-1 C-USA) began the season 4-1 but added just two victories through September and will be coming off a trip to Central Florida when they arrive in Hattiesburg. Claire Nicholson's five goals and 12 points are team highs while the Golden Hurricane have split time in goal between Katie Bykowski and Hayley Harryman. Both keepers have six starts through 12 games for Tulsa.

Southern Miss has dropped a pair of close 1-0 decisions since entering conference play but sport a winning record at home this season and will look for their difference makers to keep that intact.

Offensively, a trio of players have contributed the majority of points with Danica Roberts, Chelsea Cruthirds and Jordan Wagner combining for 17 points, six goals and four assists this season.

Friday's game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff while Sunday's match will begin at 1 p.m. Admission to all Southern Miss soccer matches is free.
