Women's Soccer Host Top Team Rice At Home
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The No. 1 team in Conference USA women’s soccer travels to Hattiesburg when Southern Miss soccer hosts Rice University at 1 p.m.
The Golden Eagles have had a week off from conference play but returns home for one game before traveling to FAU. Golden Eagles have started 0-2-1 in conference where the Owls are a perfect 3-0 after Thursday’s 2-0 win against Western Kentucky.
Goals aren’t lacking for either squad this season. The two sides have a combined total of 55 goals scored. Southern Miss holds a five goal edge with 30 goals on the season. Becky McMullan and Ola Akinniyi lead the team with five goals each where Rebecca Keane leads the Owls with six.
Sunday’s game will be an offensive battle with both teams totaling more than 60 shots each in the 2017 season. Both goalkeeper’s will have their days cut out for them. The Owls goalkeeper has allowed only 10 goals against her in nine games and has started all nine games for the Owls. Kelly Brahmbhatt and Kendell Mindnich have split time in goal for the Golden Eagles.
Rice defeated the Golden Eagles 1-0 last year off a goal in the 75th minute. The Golden Eagles look to end Rice’s four-game win streak starting back on Sept. 10 against Tulsa.
