Following a successful home stand, the surging Southern Miss women's soccer team will take its show on the road for the Mississippi State tournament this Friday and Saturday in Starkville, Miss.

The Golden Eagles will face Jackson State Friday at 5 p.m. and Furman at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Live stats and up-to-the-minute information throughout the weekend will be available at the Mississippi State Tournament Central page.

The Golden Eagles are 4-1-1 and have, under first-year coach Mohammed El-Zare, already equaled or bettered their win totals from 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. A 4-1-1 start is Southern Miss' best since 2004.

Southern Miss has scored 20 goals on the year, which is more than double its output through six matches in 2012 and three more than the total goal output of 2012, five more than the total goals scored in 2011 and three more than the total goals scored in 2010.

The only year in which the Golden Eagles scored more goals through their first six matches was 1998, when they amassed 23.

Senior Danica Roberts, the reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, leads both the team and conference with seven goals scored in 2013. Last week, she accounted for three goals over two matches, including the first goal of a 3-0 win over Mississippi State last Sunday.

Defensively, the Golden Eagles have held four opponents scoreless and allowed just five total goals.

The goal keeper duo of Lindsey Schwaner and Brittany Taylor have combined to make 34 saves.

Jackson State's Tigers enter the contest 0-5-1 and on a four-match losing streak dating back to a 0-0 tie versus Louisiana Tech on Aug. 27.

The Tigers have scored just one goal on the year, that coming from Shatiaunna Banks against Southeastern Louisiana in the season opener.

Jackson State, like Southern Miss, has employed two keepers on the year with Kylie Christian and Sie'Yaa Wells combining to make 17 saves.

In their last outing, the Tigers fell 1-0 to Northwestern State.

Southern Miss and Jackson State did not play in 2012. The most recent match took place in 2011 and was won by the Golden Eagles 2-0.
