HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss soccer coach Scott Ebke announced on Tuesday that this weekend's Southern Miss Soccer Tournament hosted by Courtyard Marriott has been moved up one day in anticipation of Tropical Storm Isaac.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to host Mississippi State, Louisiana-Monroe and Georgia State in the event that will now begin on Saturday, Sept. 1 instead of Friday, Aug. 31.
The teams will now have times on Sunday to train and then play their second round of matches on Monday.
"Obviously, the safety of the student-athletes from all of the participating schools is the most paramount issue in our minds," said Ebke. "The coaching staff and administration from each school has been very understanding and gracious about moving this event back one day, and for that, we are very thankful. We're looking forward to some great matches being played this weekend."
Southern Miss will take on Louisiana-Monroe at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Georgia State on 10 a.m. on Monday. The other two matches of the four-match event will see Georgia State take on Mississippi State at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and the Lady Bulldogs against the Warhawks at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
All of the matches will be played at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
