Hendrix, Oram Tryout for Professional Team in Holland
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Former Southern Miss soccer standout Brooke Hendrix, along with former Golden Eagle assistant coach Jessica Oram have both spent the past week in Holland trying out for the SC Heerenveen women's professional team. The duo will learn if they have earned a spot on the professional team on Friday.
"I am really proud of Brooke and Jessica, taking on this challenge and having the chance to go and tryout over in Europe in a country that has a wealth of developing elite players like Holland," said head coach Mohammed El-Zare. "It is not a surprise for me to see both Brooke and Jess in this position."
Hendrix played for the Golden Eagles from 2011-14. She competed in 71 career games, making 63 starts and logging 5,157 minutes on the field. Hendrix recorded 24 points in her career, scoring seven goals, while adding 10 assists. Hendrix finished her Southern Miss career ranked in the school's career top 10 in games started (7th), games played (8th), and assists (8th).
"From day one when I came to Southern Miss, Brooke said that one of her aspirations and goals was to push herself and take her talents to the highest level," El-Zare stated. "That was one of her personal goals since her childhood, so it doesn't surprise me. Even after exhausting her eligibility, she was training with our team last spring. She was training while doing her internship. This fall she was playing on a men's club team in Alabama, challenging herself, which shows her desire to play at the next level. She completed her degree this December and it is no surprise to see her in this position."
Oram joined the Southern Miss coaching staff during the summer of 2014 after a successful collegiate career at the University of South Alabama. In her two years in Hattiesburg, Oram helped El-Zare continue to build a solid foundation.
"We wish them both well throughout the tryouts," said El-Zare.
