COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Southern Miss soccer team finished its 2013 season far from home Thursday night, falling 5-1 to Conference USA opponent Colorado College.

Though the season ended on a loss the Golden Eagles' 2013 campaign was among their best in recent history.

Southern Miss finished with a 7-9-4 record, the most wins in a season since an 8-11 showing in 2007 and the fewest losses in a season since a 4-9-2 showing in 2005.

Thursday night, the Golden Eagles lead early but succumbed to a series of goals by the Tigers (13-4-1, 8-1-1 Conference USA).

Freshman Somer Jones scored in the second minute of the match, putting a ball into the top right corner with an assist from Kimberly Belmont.

Colorado College followed with five goals, two by Jessie Ayers and one apiece from Chanisse Hendrix, Sarah Schweiss and Madison Whitehead.

Defensively, the Golden Eagles were paced by freshman keeper Brittany Taylor, who finished with 13 saves on the night.
