RUSTON, La. - A rough start proved too much for the Southern Miss soccer team to overcome Sunday as the Golden Eagles fell 2-0 to Louisiana Tech in Conference USA road action.
The Lady Techsters (9-7-1, 4-3 Conference USA) scored two goals in the first 11 minutes of the match.
After that patch of ill luck, the Golden Eagles (6-7-4, 0-5-2 Conference USA) managed to stymie the opposing offense and get off several quality shots, five of which were on goal.
However, the ball did not bounce the way of Southern Miss in this match and Louisiana Tech was able to hold on for the win.
Golden Eagle goalie Brittany Taylor (3-7-4) had another solid day, making six saves. Louisiana Tech's Caitlin Updike (7-7) made five saves in the contest.
The game's two goals were scored by Kathryn Sloan and Brittany Bedow respectively. Sunday's match marked the end of a two-game road trip for Southern Miss.
The Golden Eagles return to Hattiesburg for their final two home contests of the season, a 3 p.m. Friday game against East Carolina followed by a Senior Day showdown with Old Dominion on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Southern Miss will close its 2013 season on the road at Colorado College on Oct. 31.
