HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After defeating Conference USA foe SMU on Friday, the Southern Miss women's soccer team fell 3-2 to Tulsa on Sunday at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
Tulsa (7-5-2, 2-3-1 C-USA) got ahead early in the match when Bradi Hinch found Camille Pelley open in the penalty box and Pelley buried the chance in the back of the net.
Southern Miss (4-7-1, 1-4-0) battled back with six shots in the frame but were unable to find the equalizer in the first half. In the waning moments of the first half, Southern Miss was forced to play a man down after Macie Wallace drew a yellow card followed by an immediate red from the officials.
In the second half, Claire Hulcer assisted Raven Tatum who got the ball 30 yards away from goal and shot the ball on a rope to the upper half of the net.
The Golden Eagles drew it to a one-point game in the 76th minute when Danica Roberts received a pass from Jordan Wagner down the right flank and was able to make one move inside before slipping it past Tulsa keeper Katie Bykowski. Chelsea Cruthirds added her first assist on the day during the play.
Tulsa, however, responded almost immediately in the 77th minute as Pelley's throw found Lindsay Kirch in the box. After a mass of players bobbled the ball around, it was Kirch who finally found the footing to push the ball into the net.
Southern Miss kept up the pressure, even playing a man down, and were able to get to within one as Cruthirds' corner kick service found Shelbi Moeller coming free across the face of the goal.
The Golden Hurricane held one final Southern Miss lob into the box away to get the victory.
Southern Miss returns to action on Friday when they travel to C-USA foe UTEP before heading to Colorado College on Sunday.
