TULSA, Okla. - In their Conference USA opener, the Southern Miss women's soccer team traveled to Tulsa on Friday and came away with a 0-0 tie after two overtime periods at Hurricane Stadium.
It was the third double overtime match that ended it a 0-0 draw of the season for Southern Miss (3-4-3, 0-0-1 C-USA), and the result was the first time this season that Tulsa (6-2-2, 0-0-1 C-USA) did not record a victory at home.
The Golden Eagles weathered an offensive storm from the Golden Hurricane including eight shots from forward Claire Nicholson. For the match, Southern Miss was outshot 21-10 but just 11-6 in shots on goal.
Senior keeper Hannah Vanderboegh came up big in 110 minutes of complete action while all four Southern Miss defenders lasted the entire match.
Junior striker Jordan Wagner led the attack with four shots (three on goal) but was unable to find net.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday when they travel south to Dallas to take on SMU. Kickoff for that match is set for 2 p.m.
