Women's Soccer Land Another 3-Goal Win
HOUSTON, Texas – Three goals continues to be Southern Miss Women’s soccer lucky number.
The Golden Eagles won their fifth game of the season after Sunday’s 3-0 win against Texas Southern. Becky McMullan got the scoring started in the 16th minute. Freshman Caitlin Pierce was credited with her first career assist for the Golden Eagles after McMullan placed the ball in the lower left corner of the net just inside the box.
McMullan now leads the Golden Eagles with four goals this season.
McMullan’s goal separated the two sides going into halftime along with the lead in shot attempts at 6-4.
Along with the number three, the Golden Eagles continue to score early in the second half. Ola Akinniyi scored her third goal of the season off McMullan’s pass inside the box just five minutes into the second.
Stephanie Garcia led the team with five shots with one on frame. The Golden Eagles continued to push the defense and scored the third goal with just five seconds left on the clock. Kierstin Bradley’s strike from 25 yards out put the Golden Eagles ahead 3-0. Bradley now has two goals on the season.
Southern Miss dominated the game with 17 shots to the Texas Southern’s seven. Kelly Brahmbhatt was needed only two times in goal.
The Golden Eagles return home Thursday to host Jackson State University at 4 p.m.
