Julie Baker Wins First Career Player of the Week Award
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss women's golfer Julie Baker was named Conference USA Golfer of the Week after a career best third place finish at the 40th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational.
Baker fired a two-over 218 over the 54 holes, including a two-under par second round, and helped the Golden Eagles claim their first team tournament victory of the season. The team carded an 873, tying the program's lowest 54-hole tournament total, and tied the third lowest total in tournament history.
This is the freshman's first top-5 finish and her career low tournament total. The Hoover, Ala. native tallied 36 pars, nine birdies and had the second best par 4 scoring average in the field. The team collected the most birdies and tied for the most pars at the event.
Baker's play helped the Southern Miss freshman class earn a No. 3 national rank.
This is the second C-USA Golfer of the Week award for the Golden Eagles this season and the first for a Southern Miss newcomer since the 2010-11 campaign.
