Women’s Golf Begins 2017-18 Season in Texas
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Women’s Golf team begins their 2017-18 campaign in The Woodlands, Texas at the Jim West Challenge Sept. 11 through 12.
“This event is an awesome opportunity to see what we are capable of this season with a more difficult schedule,” head coach Erika Brennan said. “The entire team has had tremendous weeks of practice and now it's time to do what we train to do. I believe in these girls and they believe in each other - it's going to be a great challenge and a fun couple of days."
Freshman Ping Huang and Julie Baker earn starting five sports for the Golden Eagles opening tournament, the first freshman to do so since the start of the 2015 season. The lineup is also composed of seniors Nichada Satasuk, medalist in last season’s Spring Break Shootout, and Kayla Bloor, medalist at the 2016 Carey Collegiate Fall Classic, and junior Valentina Haupt, C-USA’s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 29, 2017.
“I'm excited to get this season started,” Bloor said. “We're ready to see all of the hard work we've put in over the past few weeks in action at the Jim West Intercollegiate this week.”
