HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior Brandi Rodriguez was named to the Women's Golf All-Conference USA Third Team in a vote by the league's 13 coaches announced today by the league office in Irving, Texas.
It is the first all-conference selection for the Lady Eagles since 2011. She is also just the third Lady Eagle to twice earn All-Conference honors, joining Marella Canepa and Virginia Espejo.
Rodriguez was one of two golfers to participate in all 10 tournaments this year. Her stroke average of 75.0 set a new Southern Miss single-season record, bettering her own record.
The Orlando, Fla. native became the first Lady Eagle to win two tournaments in a season when she earned medalist honors at the UAB Fall Beach Bash and the Lady Eagle Invitational.
She had three top five finish, four top ten finishes and six top 20 finishes. At the Rebel Intercollegiate, Rodriguez became the first women's golfer in school history to shoot under par in all three rounds on her way to a second-place finish.
She also tied for ninth at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, where she shot a 69 in the first round.
Most recently, the senior closed her career setting a new school record by shooting a 67 in the final round of the Conference USA Championship.
The first team was led by Golfer of the Year Emily Penttila of Tulane. Joining her was teammate Gemma Dryburgh, East Carolina's Frida Gustafsson Spang and Nicoline Engstroem Skaug and UTSA's Fabiola Arriaga.
The second team consisted of Newcomer of the Year Silvia Garces of Tulane, as well as teammate Madison Opfer, Freshman of the Year Camila Serrano of FIU, Fanny Wolte of East Carolina and Avery George of Middle Tennessee.
Joining Rodriguez on the third team was FIU's Meghan MacLaren, Belen Goicoechea of Tulane and UTSA's Taylor Newlin and Brogan Townend.
