HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team returns to the links this week when it participates in the M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate, Friday - Sunday, April 5-7. The tournament will be played at the Ole Miss Golf Course in Oxford, Miss.
Southern Miss, who is ranked 91st in the latest Golfweek.com Top 100, is joined by 12 other teams in the Top 100, including six in the Top 50. Conference USA rival and 20th-ranked Tulane heads the list, followed by No. 26 LSU, No. 27. Baylor, No. 32 Kentucky, No. 48 Coastal Carolina and No. 50 Ole Miss.
No. 58 Tulsa, No. 60 Missouri, No. 61 Mississippi State, No. 63 East Tennessee State, No. 64 Minnesota, No. 67 Furman and No. 74 Harvard round out the Top 100. Also in the tournament are Memphis, Murray State, Redlands CC and Troy.
The Lady Eagles have finished in the top five in seven of their nine tournaments this year. They are coming off a sixth-place finish at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate.
Junior Brandi Rodriguez leads Southern Miss with a 76.32 stroke average. She has earned two top five, three top 10 and five top 20 finishes on the year. Senior Vicky Correa is second on the team with a stroke average of 77.50, while leading the team with six top 20 finishes.
This will be the fifth straight year that the Lady Eagles will participate in the tournament and the 10th time overall. Southern Miss' best finish came in 1998 when it took third-place.
The tournament begins Friday with teams teeing off at 8 a.m. CT. The teams will play 18 holes each day.
