First Round Results
Gulf Shores, Ala. - The Southern Miss women's golf team holds 12-shot lead heading into the final round of the UAB Fall Beach Bash, hosted by UAB and played at the par-72, 6,050-yard Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club.
The Lady Eagles shot a first round 305 and sit 17-over par, 12 shots ahead of second-place UAB.
"We had a great day under very difficult conditions," said Southern Miss head coach Julie Gallup. "The girls played very smart and hard and I'm very proud of them."
Southern Miss also holds the top three spots in the individual completion. Freshman Juliana Herrera leads the individual competition after shooting a two-over 74, one shot ahead of senior Vicky Correa. Junior Kaylee Random, who is playing as an individual, shot a four-over 76 to tie for third-place.
Redshirt junior Lauren Judson and sophomore Sarah Hicks are tied for sixth-place after each carding a 78. Junior Brandi Rodriguez posted an 82 to tie for 27th-place, while freshman Jennifer Nguyen, who is playing in her first career tournament, is tied for 32nd-place with an 83.
The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final round beginning at 8:00 a.m.
