Gulf Shores, Ala. - Sophomore Juliana Herrera fired an even-par 72 to sit in a second-place tie after one round of the UAB Fall Beach Bash. The tournament is being hosted by UAB and is being played at the par-72, 6,050-yard Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club.
Herrera is tied with McNeese State's Dolores Brown and is two shots back of Tala Mumford of Austin Peay. The 72 is Herrera's second career round of par or better.
Southern Miss opened with a 14-over par 302, one shot back of Sam Houston State and Houston Baptist.
Senior Brandi Rodriguez is tied for fourth-place after carding a 73. Redshirt senior Lauren Judson shot a 75 and is tied for 19th-place. Sophomore Jennifer Nguyen, playing as an individual, carded a 77 and is tied for 35th-place.
Senior Kaylee Random, also playing as an individual, posted a season-best 79 to sit in a 48th-place tie. Freshman Emily Ross is in 57th-place after posting an 82 and freshman Devon Spriddle shot an 84 to sit in a tie for 62nd-place..
Austin Peay leads the tournament at seven-over par. Tulsa is two shots back in second-place.
The second round begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
